Actions speak louder than words

There are umpteen number of minor and major, small and big, overt and covert, domestic and international, religious and other conflicts happening around the world. It is customary for many armchair thinkers and ivory tower intellectuals to relish expressing their concerns over many a thing. There is no dearth of observers who day in and day out comment and lament, prescribe and proscribe, cry and decry., commend and recommend the things they like and/ore dislike. Some people even join the bandwagon, pay lip service to good causes and shed crocodile tears over tragedies. It is basically an exercise in intellectual catharsis because it shows profound spiritual and emotional poverty. Too much of an intellectual analysis without any corresponding action leads to paralysis. His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, in an address to the 2015 World Parliament of Religions  challenged peoples of faith and conscience around the world to commit to action in making difference to the world. As usual, His Holiness, reaffirmed his commitment to and leadership in the global interfaith movement. He said: I believe the interfaith movement can contribute in helping to save the world. But not just through the nice words of dialogue but with our actions. It is the responsibility of human beings to fix the problems which we create – of climate change, of the widening income gap, of hate and war. God will not do this for us, we must take responsibility for our actions. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama Thus, the message is loud and clear: Nice words are necessary but not sufficient. Diplomatic niceties not supported by concrete actions turn out to be hollow, empty promises and expose shallow hearts of manipulative wordsmiths. So, let us act please in enlightened common interest of all.
